Growing Rats - Podzemlje (demo), 2005

Slovenia
diy; Shupak Records, 2005
Hardcore/punk

(13 tracks, 27 min, CD~?~wma9.1~WMA@128kbps, 25MB)

''We started in october 2004. At first, there were just 3 members, those were Matic (guitar), Nejc (bass), Ales (drums), who gave the idea to create a band. After couple of months playing together, we needed to complete our sound so we asked around, and soon the 2nd guitar, came by new member Tomaz. Soon we started to write our own songs, because we already had a gig scheduled after only a week of practicing so its obvious how it all sounded. honestly, crap! At first we actually didnt know what we want to play, really. someone wanted to play 3-chord punk, someone fast punk rock, e.g. pennywise, bad religion....and someone hardcore. And hardcore it was...

We also recorded a demo CD in september 2005 and released our CD No More Silence (somewhere between 2007 and 2008 :) ). Our lyrics, are mostly about people..s relations, politics, social and scene problems etc etc. we hope people will support us, and just to mention, we do it for the fun, and not for the money....money sucks, as 4 sivits say!! KKxHC! '' read the complete bio at GR MySpace.

Here you have demo and first album of Krško's HC Growing Rats.
It's a mix of punk, old school and NYHC sounding Hardcore.
As said, critical songs in form of fast short punk/hc. Young band that already broke up and reunited just recently. This is not super great, but the honesty of HC sound is there for sure. If they decide to keep up making music, we can expect only rise of quality and lot of cool punk in the future.
There is also the song JAD, from Tribute to RAZLOG ZA compilation, included in the download.

NOSEBLEED

Nosebleed - Rise Of The Robots, 2009

Serbia
diy, 2009
Hardcore/Punk metal

(12 tracks, 35 min, Mp3@320kbps, 85MB)

''Nosebleed got together in 2005. Played a whole bunch of small gigs all 'round the country, a couple of mediocre ones, and one real big one, at Exit Festival's Metal Hammer Stage in July 2006. at 3 a.m. demon hrs. In 2009. the band records their full length debut "RISE OF THE ROBOTS". As they realize no one buys cd's any more they decide to give it away for free.... So they put it up online. Same year, On March 21st, , they made their first show outside the country. That happened in Skopje, Macedonia. Cool people. 2010. "I WAS IN A SUBCULTURE AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY EP" happens, and once again, it's available for free download. If you wanna book a show or something, write here. Cheers.'' from: Nosebleed MySpace

This is really great powerful Hardcore, soaked in just enough metal to please punkers just as metal heads.
You will be surprised how great songs fellows from Belgrade recorded with help of some friends in diy style. Very melodic but pissed enough to stay in ears.
So as said guys from Nosebleed are offering this as free download, but don't let that fool you about quality of these two albums!
Both albums have never been officially released as physical copy, but would be worth every cent if available
as records. Be sure to have this!

Dustin Hoffman - The sounds of Hollywood

Dustin Hoffman - The sounds of Hollywood (demo Ep)

Slovenia
diy, 2010
skaterock/media-crustcore

(08 tracks, 12 min, ?~?~Lame~Mp3@320kbps, 65MB)

'' DUSTIN HOFFMAN is an oldschool skaterock band from Ljubljana (Slovenia),
formed by four friends, skateboarders that just wanted to make some noise!

A band is really more hangin in the basement trough the winter while we cant
skate street, than a serious group with plans and,... We just wanted to make
something out of getting bored, so the "sounds of hollywood" demo cd is here!

Recorded in few drunk hours and mixed in the next few, Dustin Hoffman sounds just
neurotic and disturbed ,...Without any clear message for the average listener, we
are touching the similarity with the "modern society" way of life,...
Chaotic, unpredictable, ignorant, evol and after all totally degenerated!

No matter that D.H. noise is inspired by bands such as Born against, Septic death,
Neurosis, Rorschach... We dont want to categorize our music in any genre,...For
us is just a skaterock and we are fuckin waiting for the summer and dry stair sets,
F.U.C.K. anything else! especially hollywood religions,.!!!

Absent Minded - Absent Minded

Absent Minded - Absent Minded, 1995

Slovenia
Zašaloizdano Records (self released), 1995
Punk/Hc

(15 tracks, 38 min, CD~EAC~Lame~Mp3@320kbps, 90MB)

The band was formed back in 1993. Their sound was always punk and PUNK.
Lyrics are about rural life and things that could also be applied to everyone - anywhere.
Hc Punk rock doesn't get any more real than sound of Absent Minded.

Absent Minded released this self titled album (original release was on a cassette, this is newer cdr version) and split CD with still active funky experimental etno punk.. band Žoambo Žoet Workestrao in 1998.
Absent Minded also appeared on DRUGA LIGA - 1995 VA cd, SMERI RAZVOJA - 1995 VA cd and SLOVENIAN UNDERGROUND - 1997 VA VHS tape.

The band no longer exists, but is reincarnated in form of TRDOŽIVI. Trdoživi are still around and they are actually making new songs and also plan to do some more shows in future.

Don't even think of not listening to this album! And you are still not too late to have some of their work in your collection, just write to: trdoziv@gmail.com

VA - No Border Jam

VA - No Border Jam, 1992

Slovenia/Austria
Front Rock, 1993
Alternative/punk

(22 tracks, 72min, CD~EAC~Lame~Mp3@V0, 136MB)

Inaugurated in 1992, the No Border Jam Festival is the oldest Slovene underground music festival, a punk festival similar to the ‘If Kids are United’ festival in Vienna, Austria, and the ‘Monte Paradiso’ festival in Pula, Croatia. The programme has presented some significant names of the anarcho-punk and punk scene, including Oi Polloi, Marky Ramone, Citizen Fish, Wat Tyler, Icons of Filth, Anarcrust and several local groups which are well-known in Europe, eg Pridigarji, Scuffy Dogs, Center za dehumanizacijo (CZD) and a number of other new groups. The festival takes place in eastern Slovenia; the first one was held in Ptuj and the second one at Ormož, but all subsequent festivals have been hosted by the Pekarna Cultural Centre in Maribor. (from: SCP)

So this is the very first compilation CD that captured in time the first NBJ festival from 1992.
Its also the first Front Rock label  CD release (FRCD 001).

Bands on the compilation are:
Veitstanz, Hello Misery, General Bomb Machine, G.R.B, Razzle Dazzle, Fleischpost, Gottschee, IN4S, Fetish 69, Hic et Nunc, Styreo Instant, Kurort, CZD, The Search For What?, Pure Laine, Sleazy Snails, Dlareks Gallery, Orange Baboons, Polska malca, Železobeton, Yellow Minute, Pridigarji.

Backstage - Trends are changing

Backstage - Trends are changing, 2006

Slovenia
NIKA; KAPA Records, 2006
Pop Punk-rock

(12 tracks, 27 min, CD~EAC~Lame~Mp3@320kbps, 70MB)

''Backstage is a new age punk-rock band that's been together since October 2001, started as a group of four guys after some line changes remained a trio. Our career started in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Band is formed by ex-members of two ex-bands Opozicija and P.I.T.A. Some time after both bands broke down the existing members decided to meet on out first practice at Metelkowa mesto.
Since then we recorded two demos (our own production) and in Novemer 2002 we decided to go to studio, where we (with help from producer Toni Jurij who also recorded our first album) recorded the song Confused. In December we shot the video for Confused - with help from Mitja Okorn. Video won the best video of the month award on our national television. In the beginning of the April 2004 we signed a record deal with Nika Records, and over the summer we've been in studio. Our first album came out in February 2004, it includes 26 songs (15 in English, 1 instrumental and 10 songs translated into Slovenian language) and was followed by another successful video for the song Misel nate. After the release of the record we started touring around Slovenia, mostly clubs, but also some festivals and bigger stages...'' (read more at BACKSTAGE MySpace)

This is their second album. Lyrics are in English except 'Trenutek' and 'Poraz'.
Music is modern melodic punk rock/pop punk and the album is produced very well and songs are also very listenable. The band used to be trio and is now four piece after Miha Brezavšček (Guitar, Back Vocals) left the group in 2007.
Band today is: Mitja Uhan - Bass, Vocals; Tomaž Pišlar - Guitar; Andrej Ogris - Guitar; Luka Virens - Drums.
Their latest single with the new lineup is called 'Dougcajt' and you can hear it here.

You can still get their both CDs ('Directors cut' and 'Trends are changing') HERE.
